WHY DO I TEACH?I teach to inspire children. I know they won't remember the quizzes they took or the math work they did in class. But they will remember being happy in my class. They will remember laughing. They will remember being kind to one another. Only once they are happy and feel secure, can they learn. They will grow in spite of me but I am thrilled to have an entire year to help them on their journey. That's why I teach. Why do you teach?
WHY DID I START THIS BLOG? I have always wanted to blog about my classroom. My students make me laugh EVERY day! I always thought...I could write a book about the things they say. I remember one of my students telling me she loved my hair. You are probably thinking: "How sweet!" Wait! The story gets better! She told me she loved how the silver hairs shine through my brown hair! At least she called it silver and not white! I'm telling you...kids are HILARIOUS! If you have one or two at home, I am sure you have a story a day about the things they do or say. Picture having 20-30 in class. They're quite amusing and make for great stories! I had the idea once to ask my students to write a collaborative book. I wanted them to tell other kids what school in Montreal was like. It would be neat to have different perspectives of kids around the world. That idea didn't quite pan out. My students ended up choosing their favourite writing piece that they had written throughout the year. It was a great little booklet that I handed out to my students on the last day of school last year. So, after 15 years in the classroom, I finally decided to write my thoughts down. I don't have students this year, as I am working at the school board. I am also working on a personal project at McGill University. I asked my professor if I could blog about my experiences in the classroom. So, here I am, trying to think of everything I want to share with my readers (so far I think it's just my professor and my mom who have access to this blog -I should expand soon!) If you're reading this blog and you're NOT my professor or my mom, it means that my audience has INDEED expanded! Perhaps you are a teacher, perhaps you are a parent, maybe you're both! Either way, I really hope that this blog inspires you to try something different in the classroom or at home with your children. I plan on blogging about educational games, teaching children to read and write, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) in the classroom, cooking/baking with kids...There will be a new blog posted every Saturday morning. My McGill project lasts 13 weeks but I really hope that I continue blogging about my experiences. Thank you for joining me on my adventure... ~Amelia (Mrs. C) |
